Enevate's Filing Peak Came Two Years Before Its Series E

Enevate holds 191 patent families: 126 granted and 65 published and pending. Filing began in 2011, with the most recent published filing dated 2025-12-03. The families appear in 8 patent offices: United States, Europe, China, Japan and South Korea.Patent figures from Google Patents Public Data, reviewed 2026-09-17. Funding: $81M Series E, 2021-02-01. Assignee matching for this company is ambiguous and the figures need manual confirmation.

A single $81M round in February 2021 is the visible event. The patent record shows the work that preceded it: eight quiet years, then a burst that crested in 2019. What were 191 families built around, and who was already citing them?

Stage one

One pulse in February, eighty-one million

The $81M Series E was announced on 1 February 2021. On a timeline that is a single point, and it is the only financial fact in this file. Everything else here is filings, dates and names. The useful question about a round this size is not what it bought but what it arrived on top of, because capital is a lagging signal and priority dates are not.

So hold the date. Enevate is a United States company, tagged automotive, and its first patent family was filed on 18 January 2011. That is ten years and two weeks of record before the pulse you are looking at. The most recent published filing is dated 3 December 2025. The interval in between is where the story sits, and it is not evenly distributed.

Stage two

A hundred and ninety-one ticks, two thirds solid

Every family Enevate has filed is one tick on this arc. There are 191 of them. The solid amber ones are granted: 126. The thin ones are the 65 still published and pending. A 66 percent grant rate across a portfolio this size is a portfolio that has been examined rather than announced, and the solid share is what an examiner has already agreed to.

Read the density rather than the count. A file with 126 grants was not assembled in a hurry, and pending families sit at the recent end by definition. The arc therefore has an old, hardened section and a newer, softer one. Which years produced which is the next thing worth knowing, because the shape of that distribution turns out to be lopsided.

Capital is a lagging signal. Priority dates are not.

Stage three

Eight flat years, then fifty-five in one

From 2011 to 2017 Enevate filed between one and three families a year. Two in 2011, two in 2012, three in 2013, and a single family in 2016. Sixteen families in seven years. Then 2018 returned 15, and 2019 returned 55. That is the peak, and it is not a gentle one. 2020 gave 32, and 2021 gave 38. The flat years and the steep years belong to the same company.

The funding marker sits in 2021. The peak sits two years to its left. Whatever the Series E paid for, it did not cause 2019. The shaded band at the right edge is the window where filings exist but have not yet published, so 2023 through 2025 read low by mechanism and not necessarily by fact. Treat 2022's 16 as the last year you can read straight.

Stage four

One code carries almost every family

H01M, batteries, appears on 188 of 191 families. That is not a cluster so much as the whole file. The two smaller bands are H01G on 15 families and C01B on 13, and both overlap the first rather than sitting apart from it. A portfolio this concentrated is a bet placed once and pressed repeatedly, with the classification barely moving across fourteen years of filing.

The recent titles show where inside that band the work has gone. One is a Si-based anode with engineered silicon-based materials. Three others concern cells with blocking devices for delayed heat propagation, state-of-charge reduction devices for propagation resistant lithium-ion batteries, and high heat capacity materials for improved safety of high energy density batteries. Same code, and a visible shift in what the claims are about.

Stage five

Small circle, and the big ones are reading

On this scale Enevate is a dot. In the same CPC groups over the last five years, LG ENERGY SOLUTION LTD filed 4,974 families, NINGDE CONTEMPORARY AMPEREX TECH CO LTD 3,595, CONTEMPORARY AMPEREX TECHNOLOGY CO LTD 3,269, SAMSUNG SDI CO LTD 2,570, NINGDE AMPEREX TECHNOLOGY LTD 1,686 and SK ON CO LTD 1,229. Against those figures, 191 families accumulated since 2011 is a rounding error by volume.

Volume is not the only reading. The organisations citing Enevate's filings are LG ENERGY SOLUTION LTD at 55 citations, GM GLOBAL TECH OPERATIONS LLC at 44, GROUP14 TECHNOLOGIES INC at 43 and SAMSUNG SDI CO LTD at 30. Two of the largest filers on this chart are also among the heaviest citers of the smallest one. And 111 inventors have been named, with Benjamin Yong Park on 105 of the 191 families.

Two of the largest circles here are also the heaviest citers of the smallest.

Stage six

What the record settles and what it leaves

The thread runs back to 2011 and holds. Sixteen families in the first seven years, a peak of 55 in 2019, the money in 2021, and one named inventor on 105 of the total. The concentration in H01M is near total, the grant share is 126 of 191, and the citing names include the two largest filers in the same groups. That is a small file that older and larger portfolios have had to account for.

What the record does not settle is direction. The newest titles move from anode materials toward heat propagation, blocking devices and state-of-charge reduction, which is a different claim shape inside the same code. The shaded window means 2023 to 2025 cannot yet be read. So the question is whether the safety-titled work becomes a second dense band or stays a coda to the first.

A diagram building through 6 stages: the funding event, drawn as a single pulse with the amount; every family drawn as one tick on an arc, granted ones solid and amber, pending ones thin; families by first filing year as bars, with the funding year marked and the unpublished window shaded; the CPC areas as proportional bands, largest first; the big filers in the same CPC groups as large circles, with this company as a small one on the same scale; the closing question, set large in italic, with the earlier stages dimmed behind it. $81M Series E, 2021-02-01 Enevate, United States 191 patent families 126 granted 65 pending Families by first filing year not fully published the round 2 2 3 3 2 1 3 15 55 32 38 16 7 7 5 2011 2019 2025 Where the claims cluster batteries and fuel cells 188 families H01M H01G 15 families non-metallic elements 13 families C01B Filers in the same CPC groups, last five years LG ENERGY SOLUT… 4974 NINGDE CONTEMPO… 3595 CONTEMPORARY AM… 3269 SAMSUNG SDI CO … 2570 Enevate 191 Shared classification indicates a common field, not a direct competitor Did the money follow the filings, or did the filings already decide what the money bought?

Does a small file with heavy citers hold?

Enevate is 191 families against filers with thousands. No one signal below settles whether that position is durable; each answers a different question, and they are only informative read together.

Where this sits

A count without context

191 families tells you nothing on its own. Without grant share, claim focus or citation traffic there is no position to assess.

What the record settles and what it leaves

Do the 2023 to 2025 families, once they publish, hold near 2022's sixteen or resume the 2019 to 2021 rate?

Does the safety-titled work on heat propagation and state-of-charge reduction grow into a distinct band, or remain a handful of titles inside H01M?

Do the 65 pending families convert at the 66 percent rate the granted 126 have already established?

Does Benjamin Yong Park's 105-family share of the file hold as the 111-strong inventor list continues to widen?

Following those four would tell you whether 2019 was the whole bet or the first of two.
