Four families, three grants, and one name written two ways

syte holds 4 patent families: 3 granted and 1 published and pending. Filing began in 2021, with the most recent published filing dated 2024-08-09. The families appear in 2 patent offices: United States and Europe.Patent figures from Google Patents Public Data, reviewed 2026-09-22. Funding: $10.3M Series A, HTGF (High-Tech Gruenderfonds), NRW.BANK and Schwarz Group, 2026-09-17.

A German company founded in 2021 raises $10.3M and hires mostly for go-to-market. The public patent file behind that raise is four families wide, three of them granted, and the titles on it describe something the sector tags do not. What is actually being sold?

Stage one

Ten million, and a hiring list

On 17 September 2026, syte announced a $10.3M Series A. The cap table is HTGF (High-Tech Gruenderfonds), NRW.BANK, Schwarz Group, Amberra and vent.io. The company was founded in Germany in 2021, which makes this a round raised roughly five years in. One pulse, one number, and behind it a file that has been accumulating since the first week of October 2021.

The roles being advertised tilt one way. Of around eighty openings, forty are go-to-market and fifteen are software and AI. That is the shape of a company that has finished building the thing and started selling it. When hiring runs ahead of engineering by that margin, the asset being monetised is usually already filed, already examined, and already on the register. So it is worth reading the register.

Stage two

Four ticks on the arc, three solid

This is the whole public portfolio. Four families. Three granted and drawn solid, one published and still pending. Seventy-five percent granted is a high conversion rate, and grants are the part of a file that exists today rather than one day. Against a $10.3M raise, four families is a small number, but small does not mean thin. It means every tick has to carry weight.

The first filing dates to 4 October 2021, the same year the company was founded. The most recently published filing is 8 August 2024, roughly twenty-five months before the round was announced. Anything filed since then would not yet be visible, so the arc you are looking at is the file as of two years ago. The pending tick is the youngest thing on the record.

Four ticks is not a thin file. It is a file where every tick has to carry weight.

Stage three

The largest band is not software

The bands run largest first, and the largest is C12N: micro-organisms and enzymes. Then G06F, data processing. Then G06V, image recognition, and G06N, AI and machine learning. Three computing bands, and one biological band that is bigger than all of them. For a company carrying sector tags of PropTech, Real Estate, Smart Building and AI, that is not the distribution a reader would predict before opening the file.

The titles say the same thing the bands do. The recent published filings are a system and process for in vivo manufacturing nanostructure-ended double-stranded covalently-closed linear DNA, and two on circular RNA platforms and their manufacturing processes from engineered DNA. That is what the record contains. The computing classifications sit alongside it rather than replacing it. Classification data and marketing language are two different documents, and here they disagree.

Stage four

Eight dots, one of them twice

Eight inventors are named across four families. One dot dominates: Martin Williams, on three of the four. A second highlighted dot reads Williams Martin, on two. Matthias Zühlke appears on one. The register carries the leading name in both orderings, which is a filing-clerk artefact worth knowing about before anyone counts heads. Read either way, the inventive load sits with very few people.

That concentration matters more in a four-family file than it would in forty. Three families granted, one person on three of them: the continuity of the file is a person, not a department. The remaining dots appear once each, which is the pattern of collaborators brought in per filing rather than a standing research group. The knowledge is held narrowly, and the grants record where it was held in 2021, 2022 and 2024.

Stage five

Four families against a thousand-filing scale

On the same scale, the other assignees filing in these CPC groups over the last five years are Zhejiang University with 1,755, Northwestern Polytechnical University with 1,572, Beihang University with 1,511, State Grid China with 1,411, Xi An Jiaotong University with 1,277 and Nanjing Aeronautics & Astronautics University with 1,232. syte is the small circle. Four families against six four-figure filers in the same classification territory.

Volume is not the comparison that decides anything here, because none of those counts says what any claim covers. In a space this densely filed, scope is the only variable that pays. A narrow granted claim in a crowded group is worth more than a wide pending one, and syte has three grants and one pending. The question the circles pose is not how many. It is how far each one reaches.

In a group this densely filed, count tells you nothing and scope tells you everything.

Stage six

What the file says, plainly

Here is the plain version. syte raised $10.3M in September 2026 and is hiring mostly to sell. Its public patent record is four families, three granted, filed between October 2021 and August 2024, concentrated on one inventor, and classified with its largest band in micro-organisms and enzymes with titles about DNA and circular RNA manufacturing. Those two descriptions have not yet been reconciled in public.

There are ordinary explanations. Filings made since August 2024 remain unpublished and would not appear. Classification reflects what was claimed, not what is being commercialised now. But on the evidence a reader can actually check, the enforceable assets on the register in 2026 are three grants in a crowded classification, resting on a very small number of names.

A diagram building through 6 stages: the funding event, drawn as a single pulse with the amount; every family drawn as one tick on an arc, granted ones solid and amber, pending ones thin; the CPC areas as proportional bands, largest first; the inventors as dots, with the most frequently named highlighted; the big filers in the same CPC groups as large circles, with this company as a small one on the same scale; the closing question, set large in italic, with the earlier stages dimmed behind it. $10.3M Series A, 2026-09-17 HTGF (High-Tech Gruenderfonds) and NRW.BANK syte, founded 2021, Germany 4 patent families 3 granted 1 pending Where the claims cluster enzymes, cells and genetic engineering 35 families C12N computing 6 families G06F image recognition 5 families G06V AI and machine learning 5 families G06N 8 inventors named across the portfolio Martin Williams is named on 3 of 4 Williams Martin is named on 2 of 4 Matthias Zühlke is named on 1 of 4 Inventor names do not establish ownership Filers in the same CPC groups, last five years Zhejiang Univer… 1755 Northwestern Po… 1572 Beihang Univers… 1511 State Grid China 1411 syte 4 Shared classification indicates a common field, not a direct competitor Three grants, one inventor, one field the tags never mention. Which file funds the next five years?

Does a four-family file justify this round?

Three things can be checked from outside. None of them settles the question on its own, because grant status, classification and inventor concentration each measure a different kind of durability and can point in opposite directions.

Where this sits

Nothing checkable on the register

Without grants, classification or inventor continuity to read, the file offers no external evidence either way. Judgement would rest entirely on unpublished material.

What the file says, plainly

When the pending family grants, does its claim scope match the three already on the register or widen beyond them?

Do filings published after August 2024 stay in C12N, or move toward the G06F, G06V and G06N bands the sector tags imply?

Does the inventor list broaden past the one name carrying three of four families, and does the register settle on a single ordering of it?

Does the forty-strong go-to-market hire produce revenue tied to the granted families, or to something the public record does not yet describe?

Following those four would tell you whether the money was raised against the file that exists or against one that has not been published yet.

Common questions

How many patents does syte have?

syte holds 4 patent families as reviewed in 2026-09: 3 granted and 1 published and pending.

How many of syte's patents are granted?

3 of the 4 families are granted, or 75 percent. The remaining 1 is published and still under examination.

What technology do syte's patents cover?

syte's claims cluster in enzymes, cells and genetic engineering (C12N), computing (G06F) and image recognition (G06V). Recent filing titles include "system and process for in vivo manufacturing nanostructure-ended double-stranded covalently-closed linear dna, the resulting molecules and their uses" and "circular rna platforms, uses thereof, and their manufacturing processes from engineered dna".

Where has syte filed patents?

syte's families appear in 2 patent offices: United States and Europe.

Which companies file patents in the same areas as syte?

The same CPC groups drew Zhejiang University, Northwestern Polytechnical University, Beihang University and State Grid China over the last five years. Shared classification indicates a common technology field rather than direct competition.

Who cites syte's patents?

Patent records from Williams Martin, Syste Bio, Fondazione St Italiano Tecnologia and East China Science & Tech University cite syte's filings. A citation indicates a reference to the work, not evidence of commercial use.

Who invented syte's patents?

8 inventors are named across the portfolio. The most frequently named is Martin Williams. Inventor names do not establish ownership, which is determined by assignment records.
