This report provides a detailed analysis of the OFDMA technology patent portfolio with respect to Wi-Fi 6.

To identify relevant patents, comprehensive searches were conducted across multiple patent databases using a combination of search strings, IPC/CPC classifications, and Wi-Fi 6 specific keywords. Since the Wi-Fi 6 standard was officially published in February 2021, the search focused exclusively on patents with a priority date on or before February 2021.

A total of 680 unique patent families were identified for OFDMA technology related to Wi-Fi 6. Out of these, 57 patent families were excluded from our analysis due to their inactive status. We also reviewed the family members of the excluded patents; some of them are still in the application phase, while others are inactive. Our analysis focused exclusively on active granted patents.

What you’ll get:

  • Essentiality analysis of OFDMA patent portfolio

  • Relevant independent claim

  • Target entity of independent claim

  • Patents that are potentially essential to Wi-Fi 6 standard

  • Patents that are potentially non-essential to Wi-Fi 6 standard

Description

To identify OFDMA patents relevant to Wi-Fi 6, we used keywords specifically associated with OFDMA in the context of Wi-Fi 6. The keywords are Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access OFDMA, IEEE 802.11ax, Wi-Fi 6, resource Unit, RU, Subcarrier allocation, Tone plan, uplink/downlink OFDMA, etc.

This manual evaluation ensures that only patents aligned with the Wi-Fi 6 standard are labelled essential, with each claim thoroughly reviewed without reliance on AI algorithm.

We have analysed one patent per family. If that patent is found to be essential, we did not evaluate the remaining family members. However, if it is found to be non-essential, we analysed other patents within the same family to assess their essentiality.
