Georgiamune raised a $92.7M Series B on 12 patent families. Here is what they actually cover

One name sits on every single filing. Samir Khleif is a named inventor on all 12 of Georgiamune’s patent families, and Mikayel Mkrtichyan is on all 12 as well. That is unusually tight authorship for a portfolio built across four filing years and six patent offices. It means the scientific thesis behind the company and the claim set behind the company are the same thing, written by the same hands. For a Series B in immunotherapy, that coherence is the asset.

The Round

Georgiamune raised $92.7M in a Series B from General Catalyst, Catalio Capital Management and Alexandria Venture Investments. The company, founded in 2014 and based in the United States, is a biotechnology company developing next-generation immunotherapeutics for cancer and autoimmune diseases.

The Portfolio

Twelve patent families since 2021. One is granted and enforceable today. The other eleven are published and pending, and the earliest of those is old enough that a first grant could land at any point. Filings run through Brazil, Canada, the European Patent Office, Korea, Mexico and the United States, which is a broader national-phase spread than a portfolio this size usually carries and suggests deliberate selection rather than default coverage. Velocity was front-loaded: five families in 2021, five in 2022, then one in 2023 and one in 2024. Claims cluster in C07D and medicinal preparations (A61K). Recent filing titles point at the mechanism directly: AKT3 modulators, antibodies to programmed cell death protein 1 that are PD-1 agonists, and novel PD-L2 mutants. The last public filing was dated 6 June 2024, which is 26 months before this round. Anything filed since then is still inside the publication window and not yet visible.

The Company They Keep

The CPC groups Georgiamune files into are busy. Over the last five years the same groups drew 387 families from China Pharma University, 347 from University of California, 308 from Inst Nat Sante Rech Med, 303 from Novartis, 277 from Zhejiang University and 237 from University of Texas. That is a crowded space, and in crowded space the count of families matters less than how narrowly and precisely each claim set is drawn. Georgiamune’s work is already being cited by others: two citing publications from Revir Therapeutics, one from Shenzhen Zhonghe Headway Bio Sci &, and one from Harbin Inst Shenzhen. Early citation from separate jurisdictions is a reasonable sign the disclosures are being read as prior art in the field. A same-week neighbour in the same CPC group is Leal Therapeutics, also filing in A61K31.

The People

Eleven inventors are named across the portfolio. Khleif and Mkrtichyan appear on 12 of 12, and Malcolm MacCoss on 8 of 12. Concentration that high usually means the chemistry and the biology sit under one roof rather than being licensed in.

What to watch

Three things. First, grants: one family is already granted and enforceable today, and the oldest of the eleven pending families is in range for a decision. Second, the publication window: with nothing public since June 2024, roughly two years of filing activity is still dark, and the next tranche of publications will show whether the 2023 and 2024 slowdown was a real change in pace or just the lag. Third, hiring. Six open roles, three of them bio or clinical, one software or AI, one hardware and one other, including a Principal Scientist for computational biology in immunology. The hiring matches the filings, which points to more of the same claim space rather than a pivot.
