One name sits on 124 of 125 families, and then eleven quiet years

Bingli holds 125 patent families: 84 granted and 41 published and pending. Filing began in 2005, with the most recent published filing dated 2023-12-27. The families appear in 3 patent offices: United States, China and Israel.Patent figures from Google Patents Public Data, reviewed 2026-09-17. Funding: $5.3M Series A, 2022-10-01.

A Belgian healthcare company raised $5.3M in October 2022. The patent record attached to it starts in 2005, peaks in 2009, and covers subjects that share almost nothing. Before you read that as a moat, you have to work out whose file you are reading.

Stage one

One pulse, dated October 2022

The funding event is a single point: $5.3M, Series A, announced 1 October 2022. Bingli is registered in Belgium and tagged to healthcare. That is the whole of the money story on this screen, and it is the most recent thing in the file by some distance.

Everything else in this brief predates it. The first filing carries a date of 16 November 2005, almost seventeen years before the round closed. A Series A that far behind the first patent application is unusual enough to be worth holding in mind while the rest of the record loads.

Stage two

One hundred and twenty-five ticks, mostly solid

The arc carries 125 families. Eighty-four are granted and drawn solid, forty-one are published and still pending. A grant rate of 67 percent across a body this size is a lot of prosecution carried through to the end, and a lot of maintenance behind it. This is not a thin defensive filing habit.

What the arc does not show is subject matter. The four most recent published titles are an anti-BDCA2 antibody-drug conjugate, an automobile impact relieving airbag, an explosive composition for preparing fireworks and firecracker-fuse, and a catering service platform based on cloud computing. Four titles, four unrelated crafts. The claim clusters run to optical device control, optical elements and medicinal preparations.

Four titles, four unrelated crafts.

Stage three

A burst that ends in 2012

The bars rise fast. Two families in 2005, two in 2006, six in 2007, then eighteen in 2008 and thirty-two in 2009, the peak. Twenty-four follow in 2010, twenty-six in 2011, fourteen in 2012. Then the axis empties. No first filings recorded for 2013 through 2022. One family in 2023, with the most recent published filing dated 27 December of that year.

The funding marker sits in 2022, in the middle of the empty stretch, a decade after the last year of real volume. The shaded window at the right covers filings made but not yet published, so the true post-raise figure is not final. On what is visible, the money arrived long after the filing engine stopped.

Stage four

Seventy-two dots, one of them lit

Seventy-two inventors are named across the portfolio. One is highlighted because BING LI appears on 124 of the 125 families. The next two names, CHENGLIN HU and ZHANGRUI GUO, appear on six each. The remaining sixty-nine dots are sparse by comparison, appearing and disappearing around a single constant.

Concentration like that has two ordinary explanations. Either one person genuinely drove every family across optics, airbags, fireworks fuse and antibody conjugates for seven straight years, or the record has gathered filings from more than one holder of a common name. The subject spread makes the second reading hard to dismiss without checking the assignment records directly.

One person on 124 families across optics, airbags, fuse and antibody conjugates.

Stage five

The largest citing party shares the name

Five organisations cite these filings. The largest is LI BING, with twelve citations back into the portfolio. HUAWEI TECH CO LTD follows with ten, UNIV XI AN JIAOTONG with five, UNIV ZHEJIANG and OLDENBURG GROUP INC with four each. The record shows the citations and nothing more about any of them.

That top node is the point. An individual name matching the dominant inventor is the heaviest citer of the body attributed to that inventor. It may be self-citation across a continuing programme. It may be two files that have been merged because the strings match. The citation graph alone cannot tell you which, and neither can the arc.

Stage six

Whose file is this, exactly

Set the pieces beside each other. A Belgian healthcare company, funded in late 2022. A patent body that opened in 2005, peaked in 2009 at thirty-two families, went quiet after 2012, and spans optics, medicinal preparations, automotive safety and pyrotechnic fuse. One inventor name on almost every file, filed at the US, Chinese and Israeli offices.

The plain statement is this: the portfolio behaves like a personal filing history under a common name, not like a company portfolio built around a single product line. That does not make the eighty-four grants less real. It means the first question is not how strong the moat is. It is which of these families the funded entity actually holds.

A diagram building through 6 stages: the funding event, drawn as a single pulse with the amount; every family drawn as one tick on an arc, granted ones solid and amber, pending ones thin; families by first filing year as bars, with the funding year marked and the unpublished window shaded; the inventors as dots, with the most frequently named highlighted; the citing organizations as nodes connected back to the portfolio; the closing question, set large in italic, with the earlier stages dimmed behind it. $5.3M Series A, 2022-10-01 Bingli, Belgium 125 patent families 84 granted 41 pending Families by first filing year the round 2 2 6 18 32 24 26 14 1 2005 2009 2023 72 inventors named across the portfolio BING LI is named on 124 of 125 CHENGLIN HU is named on 6 of 125 ZHANGRUI GUO is named on 6 of 125 Inventor names do not establish ownership Organizations citing the portfolio Bingli LI BING 12 citing HUAWEI TECH CO LTD 10 citing UNIV XI AN JIAOTONG 5 citing UNIV ZHEJIANG 4 citing A citation is a reference to the work, not evidence of commercial use One name, one hundred and twenty-five families, four unrelated crafts. Whose file?

Does the funded company own the file it appears under?

Three checks separate a company portfolio from a name-matched aggregation. Any one of them can be explained away on its own. Taken together they settle the question that the arc and the inventor chart cannot.

Where this sits

A name, not an estate

The portfolio reads as a personal filing history that shares a string with the funded company. Treat the eighty-four grants as unattributed until the assignment records say otherwise.

Whose file is this, exactly

Which of the 125 families appear on the funded Belgian entity's own assignment records, rather than being grouped by inventor name alone?

Does the single 2023 family share named inventors or claim subject matter with the 2005 to 2012 body, or does it stand apart?

Do filings made after October 2022 and still inside the unpublished window reopen the axis, and in which technical groups?

Are the twelve citations from LI BING self-citations within one continuing programme, or references between separate holders of the same name?

Answering those four would tell you whether Bingli is sitting on an eighty-four-grant estate or on a name that happens to match one.
