Stage one

One pulse, sixty-four months after the last

The $4M Series B came from Harmonix Fund, SternAegis and Pier 70 Ventures. It is the visible event. The invisible one is the gap behind it: the last public filing from DermaSensor is dated 21 May 2021, five years and four months before the money landed. Anything filed since then is still inside the publication window and cannot be read yet.

That gap is not automatically a silence. A company founded in 2009 that raises to commercialise is usually filing on the things it learned in the clinic, and those applications sit unpublished for eighteen months. What the public record can tell you is what the company chose to protect when it had no revenue to defend, which is often the more revealing choice.

Nothing waiting, everything already decided

Two families on a scale built for hundreds

Count is the wrong measure in a space this dense, because nobody wins it by volume. What matters is whether the two granted sets of claims sit on the specific mechanism, elastic scattering spectroscopy applied to a skin lesion with calibrated illumination, or on something a large filer's general sensing work would pass through anyway. Narrow and mechanical beats broad and crowded.

Who found these patents, and from where

The citing set is small and not dermatological. Motion Engine accounts for seven citing publications, Curai three, Beylin Simon two, Mei Micro two and Tsme two. These are the organisations whose own applications pointed back at DermaSensor's work, and the shape of the list says the optical and sensing side of the disclosure is what other filers keep reaching for.

Citations are not a judgement of value, but they do mark where a document sits in the technical map. Being cited by sensing and MEMS-adjacent filers rather than by skin imaging companies suggests the 2013 and 2021 disclosures read, to examiners and drafters, as instrument physics. That is a durable place to own claims, because instrument physics does not go out of fashion when the clinical workflow changes.

What the hiring plan already answered

Clinical solution specialists. This is a company staffing distribution and evidence generation, not a research expansion. So the moat is thin in count and real in kind. Whether that is enough depends entirely on how close the allowed claims sit to the thing being sold, and on what has been filed since May 2021 that nobody can read yet.
